Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Before he reached his first birthday, his parents, James and Deloris, moved the family to Wilmington, North Carolina, where james built a basketball court in the backyard of the family's new house. Young Michael was one of five children -- he had two brothers, Larry and James, and two sisters, Delores and Roslyn.

Growing up,  MJ adored baseball, but also played football and basketball. He was a very good pitcher in Little League and threw several no-hitters, coming one game away from leading his team to the Little League World Series. In 1975, Michael was named "Mr. Baseball" among players in his age group by the Dixie Youth Baseball Association. At one point, while pitching for Laney High School in Wilmington, Jordan boasted a 42-inning scoreless streak. It wasn't until he was older that Jordan truly took basketball seriously. After being beaten by his older brother, Larry, Michael took it personally and improved his game. Being beaten by his older brother was the only motivation Jordan needed to work on his basketball game and become the best player he could.

Jordan's play in high school drew the attention of University of North Carolina assistants Roy Williams and Bill Guthridge. Williams made sure that Jordan attended Dean Smith's basketball camp in the summer of 1980. Smith was impressed with Jordan's play and offered him a scholarship. His top choice would have been UCLA, but he was never recruited by the Bruins. Ironically, Jordan actually grew up a fan of rival North Carolina State because he admired David Thompson. Jordan was also recruited by South Carolina and Maryland, but ended up going with North Carolina because he liked its head coach, Smith. Shop at nike for more items!

MJ started as a freshman, which was a rare feat in itself on a Smith-coached team. He was instrumental in the Tar Heels' run to the 1982 National Championship. In the title game against Patrick Ewing and Georgetown, the Hoyas led, 62-61 with 32 seconds left. After a timeout, Michael Jordan took a pass from teammate Jimmy Black, and pivoted to take a 16-foot jump shot that went through the basket with 15 seconds remaining. The Tar Heels would take home the national championship with a 63-62 win. After Jordan's game-winning basket, UNC assistant coach Eddie Fogler said, "The kid doesn't even realize it yet, but he's part of history now. People will remember that shot 25 years from now."

Jordan is a Hall of Fame shooting guard who played in the NBA from 1984 to 2003 for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards, and is currently the primary owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. Winner of five regular-season MVP awards, he is widely considered the best basketball player ever to play in the NBA. Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles, and was voted the Finals MVP a record six times. Michael Jordan scored more points per game than any player in NBA history, with a 30.1 average, and his 32,292 career points scored rank as the third-most in NBA history. His career postseason scoring average of 33.5 points is also the best in NBA history.

Feb 7, marked the official unveiling of the Air Jordan 2012, the franchise's 27th shoe. Building off last year's modular system and the idea of "Choosing Your Flight" the shoe offers three interchangeable midsole, each designed with a different performance element in mind- "Fly Through" for explosiveness, "Fly Over" for jumping, and "Fly Around" for quickness. The Air Jordan 2012 Deluxe also features two inner sleeves- a low-cut option for players who want more freedom of motion in the ankle, and a high-cut top for those who need more ankle support. Combined with the three midsole provides additional cushioning and responsiveness. A carbon grid pattern aligns the outer edges, and "Flight Carbon" plate on the bottom of the midfoot is contoured to the foot's natural shape. The Air Jordan logo on the lateral sides is the last 'puzzle piece', says Air Jordan 2012 designer Tinker Hatfield.

The design of the XV's (15) originated from the air craft X-15 which was developed my NASA during the 1950's and was to say , the least a bit radical. The tongue of the shoe was sticking out in a style that very much made the owners thoughts go directly to MJ himself. The sides of the shoe were in a women kevlar. The Air Jordan XV's (15) were the 1st Air Jordan's to have gotten negative feedback from its fans because of the quality of the shoe was bad.

Also the sides on the Upper are Pitted just like a panthers cheeks from its whiskers. The final cue from the black panther is the hologram on the back of the shoe which imitates a panthers's eye in the dark when light is shinned at them. Buy Air Jordan XI (11) 1996

The Air Jordan XI (11) model was designed by Tinker Hatfield. While MJ was still pursing a career in baseball, Hatfield designed the shoe hoping that MJ would wear them if he ever returned to the NBA. The Jordan XI (11) was meant to stand out with a fusion of performance and style. Copying mountaineering backpacks, the condura nylon upper gave this model made it more lightweight durability. Further changes came with the use of a fiber plate on the sole of the shoe, that can be seen underneath the clear outsole, which gave the shoe improved torsional rigidity. The most visually distinct aspect of the shoe was its shiny patent leather mid and toebox. Patent leather was lightweight when compared to genuine leather. It didn't tend to stretch as much. The patent leather gave the Air Jordan XI (11) a what some would describe as a "formal' look. These sneakers were "sampled" during the playoffs of the year of Jordan's 1st return in 95'. Designer Tinker Hatfield and Nike did not want MJ playing in them, but when the sample was completed, MJ saw it, took it, and said he wanted to wear the shoe. Nike and Hatfield hoped that he would not wear it during the playoffs against Orlando. He did, and Nike and Hatfield were highly upset because the shoe wasn't even in production yet and now they would be forced to produce for the masses.

Buy Air Jordan VII (7) 1992

The Air Jordan VII (7) was released in 1992. Tinker Hatfield created the Air Jordan VII (7) which had many similarities with the Air Jordan VI model. The Air Jordan VII (7) was designed unique because it used some of the Nike Huarache technology to create a shoe that really stuck to the consumer's foot. The visible air sole, the Nike Air logo, and the yellowing soles were all no longer featured on this model. The Air Jordan VII (7) was also known as the "Hares" because the commercials promoting the shoe featured cartoon character Bugs Bunny. This was the 1st Air Jordan's that did not have the distinctive symbol "Nike Air" on the outer portions of the shoe. The "Nike Air" sign can be found in the in-sole of the shoe. Nike was unhappy about this, but designer Tinker Hatfield, had a greater vision believing that the "Jumpman Brand" could stand on its own 6-7 years down the road.

Some elements were the same from the Air Jordan IV but the Air Jordan V's (5) most distinctive feature is arguably is its reflective tongue. There was another innovation the clear rubber soles. The soles gave the shoe a whole new look but it yellowed when it got exposed to moisture. To combat the problem, collectors stored the shoes in a cool, dry area. The Air Jordan V (5) also featured a based top with lace locks, making the strapping on the shoe easy. The lace lock feature partly inspired the Air Jordan Spiz'ike. The Air Jordan V model is considered to have the best structure and design to wear during basketball games and sold the most pairs of shoes from the Air Jordan Line.
